This colored postcard depicts Veteran's Square also known as Depot Square in Laconia in the early to mid 1900s.
In the foreground is a dirt covered Depot/Veteran's Square. Pleasant Street is in the foreground and proceeds across the picture from left to right. It intersects with Beacon Street in the middleground, which proceeds into the background. In the background Beacon Street intersects with Main Street which proceeds from left to right and Church Street which proceeds into the far background. In the foreground on the far right is a grassy area with plants and rocks. In the middleground on the far left is the Laconia Passenger Depot with its covered entrance/drive up area on the front facing Beacon Street. In the center middleground is a pole, possibly a flagpole. In the middleground on the far right is the Congregational Church constructed of stone with a tall square tower on the front right side facing Beacon Street. There is a wooden fence bordering the grounds around the church. Behind this church is a two and a half story house with windows and shutters on the lower two levels. Behind this house is the Old North Congregational Church with its tall steeple/clock tower facing Beacon Street. In the background in the center is the Gale Memorial Library also known as the Laconia Public Library which is constructed of granite and has two towers on the front facing Main Street. To the right of the library and behind it on Church Street is the John Weymouth Busiel House which later became the St. Joseph's rectory. On the front is printed " Laconia, N.H. Depot Square."On the back is printed "Post Card" and "The Hugh C. Leighton Co., Manufacturers, Portland, ME, U.S.A. 25137, Printed in Germany" . Also printed on the back is "Place Stamp here, One Cent for United States and Island Possessions, Cuba, Canada and Mexico. Two Cents for Foreign".
