The recto is green with printed black message and pictures. Printed on the front is: "AIKEN'S FAMILY KNITTING MACHINE. / KNITTING NEEDLES OBSOLETE. / THIS BOX CONTAINS ONE COMPLETE KNITTING MACHINE. / Can be unpacked and put in operation in Five Minutes. / Fastens to any ordinary table; can be operated by a child; knits all kinds / of Yarn, Coarse or Fine; will Earn from $2.00 to $3.00 per day. / For further information and Circulars, address with Stamp, / WM. H. SHARP & Co., GEN'L AGENTS, 100 WASHINGTON ST., / CHICAGO. - - ILLINOIS." Below this is "For" with space for an address to the right. In the lower left corner is: "EXPRESS, / C.O.D." and "Horton & Leonard, Printers, Chicago." is printed in the lower margin. The label is framed by a double black line with scroll-work designs in each of the four corners.
At the left side is an image of the circular knitting machine. To the left is printed: "AIKEN's / Portable FAMILY / KNITTING / MACHINE." The machine is mounted on the edge of a dining table with turned legs. The wheel for operation is at the left, with gears connecting to the flat top portion (which serves as the actual knitting apparatus). On the table is a stand with three spools of yarn set below, with strands connected up through the stand, and down to the knitting machine. Below the machine hangs a hosiery tube. Printed in the lower right of the image is "BAKER".
Handwritten on verso in pencil: "This is the Label to go / on end of box which we / referred to in former / letter - please make / boxes as requested - / N[?]ays[????]."
