This colored postcard depicts Veteran's Square also known as Depot Square in Laconia in the mid 1900s.
In the foreground is Veteran's Square with Beacon Street on the right which intersects with Main Street which proceeds from left to right in the middleground and with Church Street in the center background. In the middleground on the far left is a grassy area of Veteran's Square with a monument/statue surrounded by a metal fence. To the right of the statue is a cannon and a triangular pile of cannon balls. In the middleground on the far right is the Laconia Tavern Hotel on the corner of Main Street and Church Street. The hotel has covered entrances on the side and front. In the background to the left of center, on Main Street, is the Laconia Public Library also known as the Gale Memorial Library. The library is constructed of granite and has two towers on the front facing Main Street. There is a walkway leading from Main Street up to the main entrance of the library. In back of the library on Church Street is the John Weymouth Busiel House which later became St. Joseph's Rectory. There are trees on the far left and on the grounds of the library. On the front is printed " Monument, Library, and The Tavern, Laconia, White Mts., N.H." On the back is printed "Post Card" and "Place Stamp Here, Domestic One Cent, Foreign, Two Cents". Stamped on the back is a postmark stating
" Dundin Fla., May 15, 1953, 6 PM". Type written on the back is a list of items including stampless letters prior to 1850, records with stamps prior to 1870 and others, and a note from Edward Hammond in Auburndale 66, Massachusetts or Crystal Beach, Florida. The postcard is addressed to the Supt. of Library in Laconia, New Hampshire.
