Object Name Medal, Commemorative
Description GAR commemorative medal. Rectangular metal pin with navy blue center and decorative gilded trim. Light gray silk ribbon with American flag at center. Metal 5-point star (brass) with image of a saint (or virgin Mary) beside two soldiers who shake hands while a woman and child look on. "Grand Army of the Republic. Veteran. 1866" inscribed along the edge of the center. Each point in the star has a symbol including swords, anchor, bugle, and rifles. Back side is covered in a variety of symbols.
